The first batch of products from the core facilities at BASF's Zhanjiang Integrated Site in South China has successfully commenced production.
This achievement marks another significant milestone for the German chemical group's largest single investment project to date. According to the company, it lays a solid foundation for the site's full operational start-up by the end of 2025.
Dr Markus Kamieth, Chairman of the Executive Board of BASF SE, stated: 'The substantial progress achieved at the Zhanjiang Integrated Site represents a crucial step in implementing BASF's strategy of 'producing locally to serve local markets'.' He added that 'in the medium to long term, the Zhanjiang Integrated Site will play a pivotal role in strengthening BASF's core business and driving sustainable growth in key markets.'
The company confirmed that multiple downstream units at the site are now operational. The additional capacity is expected to enhance BASF's ability to meet rapidly growing market demand in China and the wider Asia-Pacific region, serving customers across various industries.
Dr Stephan Kothrade, Member of the Executive Board of BASF SE and Chief Technology Officer, responsible for Asia Pacific, commented: 'The outstanding achievements of our team fully validate BASF's strategy of deepening our presence in Asia and supporting our customers' sustainable development. Echoing the strategic importance, Dr. Hanping Lin, President of Major Projects Asia at BASF, remarked: 'Strategically positioned to supply high-quality, low-carbon-footprint chemical products to rapidly expanding markets, the Zhanjiang integrated site employs cutting-edge technology and adheres to the Group's highest safety standards. The successful first production run from the core facilities lays a solid foundation for full operational commencement by the end of 2025.'
