Major Ports
According to data from the Mexican Navy Department, there are a total of 118 maritime port terminals in Mexico, distributed along the Pacific coast, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Caribbean region. The main ports in Mexico are as follows:

(1) Port of Veracruz
This port is the largest port on the east coast of Mexico. It is located on the southwest bank of the southeastern coast, bordering the Atlantic Ocean. Known as the "eastern gateway" of Mexico, its service market is the Atlantic Basin on the east coast of the Americas. The Port of Veracruz is a commercial and industrial center in Mexico and a distribution center for agricultural products on the east coast of the country. It is also an important international airport and a railway and highway hub in eastern Mexico. The container terminal of this port covers a total area of 420,000 square kilometers and has a water depth of 14 meters. The port has dedicated berths for general cargo, containers, petroleum, and dry bulk cargo. The main cargoes include imported agricultural products and exported industrial products such as cement.

(2) Port of Lázaro Cárdenas
This port is located on the south Pacific coast of Mexico, between Mexico City and Guadalajara, two major central cities of Mexico. It is the only port on the Pacific side of Mexico that can provide direct rail international transit services to the United States. The main import and export cargoes are mineral products. It is also the only port in Mexico that can accommodate 150,000-ton heavy vessels. Mexico's large enterprise PEMEX (National Petroleum Company) has a dedicated container berth at this port. In addition to modern container terminals and general cargo terminals, this port is famous for its grain terminal. The port is connected to the central industrial area of Mexico by railway and highway. Its natural maritime market includes the east coast of North America, Central America, and South America, as well as the Pacific coast.

(3) Port of Manzanillo
This port is on the Pacific coast and located on the southeast bank of Manzanillo Bay in southwestern Mexico, 250 kilometers northwest of the Port of Lázaro Cárdenas. It is the gateway to the sea for the state of Colima and the largest port on the Pacific coast of Mexico. The Port of Manzanillo has railways and highways connecting to the industrial area hinterland, providing convenient transportation to the Pacific coast and the west coast of the Americas.

(4) Port of Ensenada
This port is located on the Pacific coast of Baja California, Mexico, and has close ties with Asian regions. The Port of Ensenada has a wide range of functions. In addition to handling container transportation and general cargo transportation and other industrial activities, it has a professional shipyard and can also handle bulk mineral loading and unloading. The port's maritime exports are mainly to China, Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, China, South Korea, Japan, Malaysia, and Indonesia in Asia; Costa Rica, Honduras, and Chile in Central America; France, Italy, and Spain in Europe; and Morocco and Algeria in Africa. In terms of imports, the goods mainly come from Asian countries, Nicaragua in Central America, and New Zealand in Oceania.

The port terminals in Mexico are relatively advanced in various facilities. There are regular or irregular passenger and cargo liners to many countries in Europe, the United States, Central and South America and the Caribbean region, the Far East, the Mediterranean region, and Scandinavia.

From January to July 2024, the export value of Mexico's Maritime transportation mode was 62.456 billion U.S. dollars, accounting for 17.63% of the total export value. The import value of Mexico's Maritime transportation mode was 126.594 billion U.S. dollars, accounting for 35.19% of the total import value.
