Recently, according to the Vietnam General Department of Customs, the Ministry of Health issued Notification No. 15/2024/TT-BYT, announcing the list of goods subject to food safety inspections upon import. The notification will come into effect on November 2, 2024. Key points include:
Goods Requiring Inspection: These include one type of food supplement, 391 types of food additives, and six types of food containers and packaging materials that come into direct contact with food.
Safety Inspection Requirements:
If the product codes of imported goods differ from those listed in the notification, they must align with customs law regulations.
For food and food additives not listed in the notification, the product codes must comply with customs law. After customs clearance, import organizations or individuals must submit supporting documentation to the Food Safety Department under the Ministry of Health.
Items not on the list but found non-compliant during inspections or flagged by the Ministry of Health or other agencies will be subject to strict inspection measures.
Exemptions from National Food Safety Inspection:
Goods listed but falling under specific cases outlined in Article 13 of Decree No. 15/2018/ND-CP (with exceptions for products under food safety warnings).
Items on the goods list but not used in the production of food, food additives, or food processing aids are also exempt from inspection.
