The UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade, Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, recently announced that the UAE will continue to expand its Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) network in 2025, targeting additional countries to maximize benefits for the UAE and its global trade partners.
Dr. Al Zeyoudi emphasized that these agreements will strengthen rules-based international trade, promote sustainable development, enhance investment opportunities, and boost trade in goods, services, and re-export activities.
The UAE's CEPA initiative aims to broaden the nation's commercial and investment partnerships globally, positioning the UAE as a key gateway for non-oil products and services, as well as a hub for global business and investment. These agreements reflect the UAE's vision of recognizing the critical role that free trade, grounded in clear rules, plays in driving sustainable economic growth and inclusive development. The diversity of these agreements and the UAE's ability to establish valuable partnerships across five continents have significantly increased opportunities across various sectors and unlocked access to new markets.
Dr. Al Zeyoudi noted that CEPA has already positively impacted several areas of the UAE's foreign trade, particularly in non-oil trade, re-export services, logistics, clean and renewable energy, technology, financial services, green industries, advanced materials, agriculture, and sustainable food systems.
Since the program's launch in September 2021, the UAE has signed CEPA agreements with 24 countries and international organizations as of early December 2024. These agreements collectively cover a population of approximately 2.5 billion, accounting for about a quarter of the global population.
