South Korea Expands Scope of Mandatory Nutrition Labelling

Recently, South Korea's Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) issued Announcement No. 2025-17, amending certain provisions of the "Standards for Labelling of Foods, etc." The key points are as follows:

Exported food products printed in foreign languages are now permitted to affix Korean-language information using adhesive labels.

The list of products subject to mandatory nutrition labelling has been expanded to include categories such as sugars, butter products, and animal-based processed foods.

In accordance with recent amendments to the "Food Code" and the "Food Additive Code," certain adjustments have been made to the "Standards for Labelling of Foods, etc." to ensure consistency in terminology and definitions.

A standardised nutrition labelling format has been established for foods composed of combinations of unprocessed primary agricultural, forestry, livestock, and fishery products along with processed foods.
