Sinolong Unveils Next-Generation BOPP Capacitor Film, Marking a Breakthrough in China's New Energy Supply Chain

Keywords

In a significant development for the materials industry, Sinolong New Materials Co., Ltd., the world's largest supplier of BOPA (biaxially oriented polyamide film), has officially launched its new generation of high-end BOPP capacitor film products, named 'long plastic high-performance capacitor film', to the global market.

The new film, characterised by its high-temperature resistance, voltage endurance, low dielectric loss, and strong self-healing capabilities, is designed for broad application in sectors including new energy vehicles, photovoltaics, wind power, home appliances, and power grids. Its mass production is expected to alleviate China's historical reliance on imported high-end capacitor films, accelerate the domestication of critical electronic materials, and provide robust momentum for the country's expanding new energy industry.

Technological Innovation and Market Context

The 'long plastic high-performance capacitor film' utilises Sinolong's independently developed biaxial stretching process and is manufactured on world-class BOPP production lines. This approach achieves superior product performance and consistency while further reducing energy consumption per unit.

The launch coincides with a period of rapid growth in key end-markets. CRIC forecasts that China's market for film capacitors in new energy vehicles will reach RMB 12.7 billion by 2029, with a compound annual growth rate of 17.78% from 2024 to 2029. Data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers indicates that from January to July 2025, China's new energy vehicle production and sales both exceeded 8.2 million units, with market penetration rising to 45%. SAIC Motor Chairman Wang Xiaoqiu forecasts that penetration will reach 70% by 2030.

Furthermore, the China Photovoltaic Industry Association reported that in the first half of 2025, China's newly installed photovoltaic power generation capacity reached 212.21 GW, a year-on-year increase of 107%, setting a new record.

Establishing Technical Barriers Through Scale and Expertise

Sinolong's newly commissioned high-end BOPP production line, with a width of 6.4 metres, is the widest in the field of ultra-thin capacitor film for new energy applications. The company holds a distinct advantage in a sector with high entry barriers, where individual production lines require investments reaching hundreds of millions of yuan.

The production of ultra-thin capacitor film demands extreme precision. Sinolong is among the few global enterprises to master multiple stretching technologies, including step-by-step stretching, mechanical synchronous stretching, and magnetic levitation linear motor synchronous stretching (LISIM). The company has pioneered fifth-generation low-carbon biaxial stretching techniques and holds over 200 core patented technologies. To date, Sinolong has been granted 224 authorised patents, including 99 invention patents.

Integrated Industrial Chain and Global Reach

Sinolong has established what it describes as the industry's first integrated industrial chain for functional membrane materials. The company operates three global production bases in Xiamen and Quanzhou, China, and in Indonesia. Its diversified product portfolio, which includes new energy films, functional BOPA films, and bio-based biodegradable films, ranks first globally in scale.

Currently holding a 20% global market share, Sinolong operates in more than 40 countries and regions. The company has collaborated with numerous globally renowned brands, enhancing material performance for over 100,000 products.

A new energy membrane materials project, with a total investment of RMB 2.5 billion, is underway to further expand the company's high-end product portfolio. The project will be implemented in phases, with the first of two production lines now operational and the second scheduled to commence production in 2026.

The company stated that through continuous innovation, it aims to achieve domestic self-sufficiency in critical materials, enhance its competitiveness in new energy and high-end manufacturing, and solidify its position within the global industrial chain.
