China's Transport and Logistics Sector Reports Robust Performance Amid Expanding Global Connectivity

China's Ministry of Transport recently released key operational data highlighting the country's logistics performance over the past week. These figures reflect steady progress in freight and shipping sectors, despite slight fluctuations in certain areas.

Port and Rail Freight Movement
Last week, China's national railways transported a total of 81.035 million tons of cargo, marking a 1.08% week-on-week decrease. Meanwhile, monitored ports handled 265.824 million tons of cargo, a 1.4% increase from the previous week. Container throughput at ports reached 5.797 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), though this represented a 3.66% week-on-week decline.

Aviation Performance
The civil aviation sector supported 115,000 flights, including 5,173 cargo flights. Among these, 3,419 were international cargo flights, and 1,754 were domestic. This represented a 1.35% week-on-week decline in flight numbers.

Expanding Global Air Cargo Connectivity
In November, China launched 11 new international air cargo routes, adding over 30 weekly round-trip flights. The routes included six in Asia, three in Europe, and two in North America. These additions reflect China's continued efforts to enhance global logistics networks.
Cumulatively, as of November 30, China has opened 156 new international cargo routes in 2024, boosting weekly round-trip flights by over 430. This robust expansion underscores China's commitment to strengthening global supply chains and facilitating international trade.

Driving Global Trade with Innovation and Connectivity
China's expanding logistics infrastructure, particularly in aviation, underscores its pivotal role in global trade. With a steadily growing network of rail, sea, and air logistics capabilities, the country continues to adapt to dynamic global supply chain demands while fostering new opportunities for international partnerships.
