China to Impose Additional Tariffs on Certain U.S. Imports Starting March 10, 2025
On March 4, 2025, the Tariff Commission of the State Council of China released an announcement regarding the imposition of additional tariffs on certain U.S. imports. The details are as follows:
On March 3, 2025, the U.S. government announced a further 10% tariff on all Chinese imports citing fentanyl-related concerns. This unilateral action by the U.S. undermines the multilateral trade system, exacerbates the burdens on U.S. businesses and consumers, and damages the foundation of China-U.S. economic and trade cooperation.
In accordance with the "Customs Law of the People's Republic of China," the "Foreign Trade Law of the People's Republic of China," and other relevant laws and international principles, the State Council of China has approved the following tariff measures, effective from March 10, 2025:
1. A 15% tariff on chicken, wheat, corn, and cotton.
2. A 10% tariff on sorghum, soybeans, pork, beef, seafood, fruits, vegetables, and dairy products.
3. An additional tariff on U.S. imports listed in the attached annex, to be applied based on the current tariff rates. Existing bonded and tariff reduction policies remain unchanged, and no exemptions will apply to the additional tariffs.
4. Goods shipped from the place of origin before March 10, 2025, and arriving between March 10 and April 12, 2025, will not be subject to the tariffs outlined in this announcement.
