China Boosts Titanium Dioxide Output with 80,000 Tonnes Annual Production Capacity
On 10 October, Bengbu Guotai Nano Materials Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Bengbu Investment Group Co., Ltd., has announced that its 80,000-tonne chlorination-based titanium dioxide production line has successfully entered stable mass production after months of intensive commissioning and trial production.
The new production line is part of a larger project that includes the establishment of a titanium-rich ore processing facility with an annual capacity of 200,000 tonnes, as well as a molten iron deep-processing line with a 150,000-tonne annual capacity. The latter is set to produce ductile iron pipes. Once fully operational, the project is projected to generate annual sales revenue approaching RMB 3 billion, marking the largest manufacturing investment made by Bengbu Investment Group in recent years.
Guotai Nano, which was founded in 2020 with a registered capital of RMB 500 million, is one of China's leading producers of titanium dioxide. The company operates a fully integrated industrial chain encompassing the extraction of titanium ore, the processing of titanium slag, and the production of chlorination-based titanium dioxide. With a focus on high-performance products, Guotai Nano's offerings include high-grade titanium slag, tetrachloride titanium, titanium dioxide, and high-purity titanium dioxide.
The company's flagship titanium dioxide project, which received an investment of RMB 1.743 billion, is based on advanced chlorination technology. When completed, it will have a total capacity of 300,000 tonnes per year. The project incorporates internationally recognized full-chain chlorination process technology and cutting-edge automated control systems, ensuring efficient production and stable product quality. The technical team behind the project has continually innovated, overcoming significant technical challenges throughout the development and commissioning phases.
In early September 2023, Guotai Nano launched its first chlorination-processed titanium dioxide product, named GR-901. This general-purpose titanium dioxide product undergoes zirconium and aluminium coating, as well as organic and micronised surface treatment. Known for its excellent features-including uniform particle size distribution, a blue undertone, high brightness, superior gloss, excellent dispersibility, and excellent weather resistance-GR-901 is expected to find broad applications across industries such as coatings, inks, papermaking, and plastics.
Fan Huichao, General Manager of Guotai Nano, noted that the company's project integrates environmentally friendly measures, including wastewater and waste residue treatment systems and the reuse of electric furnace exhaust gases and residual heat. Additionally, the installation of a 13.5MW distributed photovoltaic power station on the factory's roof, which began grid connection and power generation in April 2023, has further enhanced the project's sustainability, achieving a dual benefit of economic and environmental gains.
As Guotai Nano's chlorination-based titanium dioxide production line reaches stable mass production, Bengbu Investment Group is poised to accelerate the planning and implementation of a second-phase titanium dioxide project, with an eye toward further bolstering the company's capacity and market presence.
