From October 29 to 31, 2024, the second round of negotiations for the China-El Salvador Free Trade Agreement (FTA) took place in San Salvador, the capital of El Salvador. China's Vice Minister of Commerce and Deputy International Trade Representative, Wang Shouwen, and Raymond, an advisor from El Salvador’s presidential office, attended and delivered opening remarks. Chinese Ambassador to El Salvador Zhang Yanhui was also present for related activities.
During this round, China and El Salvador engaged in in-depth discussions on trade in goods, services, investment, regulatory frameworks, and the next steps. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment, under the strategic guidance of their respective leaders, to accelerate negotiations. The aim is to conclude a comprehensive, high-standard, modern, and mutually beneficial FTA that will enable both countries' businesses and citizens to reap the benefits.
The China-El Salvador FTA negotiations initially launched in April 2024, with the first round of talks held in Beijing. In this round, both sides agreed to work collaboratively, addressing key concerns and interests, to make breakthroughs and expedite the negotiation process, with the shared goal of reaching a comprehensive agreement as soon as possible.
