As the global chemicals market continues to evolve, countries and regions are strengthening their requirements for chemical safety management. In 2025, a series of significant updates to the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) will come into effect, impacting manufacturers, importers, and distributors worldwide. Below are the key updates to Jordan’s GHS implementation for 2025:
Jordan officially adopted its new chemical classification and labelling regulation on December 30, 2024. The updated regulation will enter into force on June 1, 2025. Key highlights include:
1) Adoption of GHS Revision 8
2) Jordan will fully implement the United Nations GHS Revision 8 standards, applying to all chemical substances and mixtures. The regulation explicitly excludes radioactive materials, veterinary medicines, food or feed, cosmetics, and medical devices.

All chemical labels must be presented in both Arabic and English and must clearly display the following information:
1) Country of origin
2) Chemical identifier
3) Hazard and precautionary statements
4) Signal word
5) Hazard class and pictograms
6) Labels must be accurate and clear, ensuring that consumers are not misled regarding the nature or potential hazards of the chemicals.
7) Hazard pictograms must be printed in black on a white background and occupy at least 1/15 of the total label area.
8) Packaging and Transport Requirements
9) All imported containers, packaging materials, and labels must comply with national safety standards.
10) For secondary packaging containing multiple primary containers, each primary container must have clear and complete label information.
11) Each shipment of chemicals must be accompanied by a comprehensive hazardous materials information sheet to ensure safety during transportation.
2. Scope of Exemptions
The regulation does not apply to radioactive materials, veterinary medicines, food or feed, cosmetics, or medical devices.
