Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto said on the 25th that the Indonesian government has decided to officially join the New Development Bank (NDB) in order to strengthen cooperation with developing countries and multilateral institutions and drive national development transformation.
Prabowo announced this decision after meeting with NDB President Dilma Rousseff on the same day. He stated that, following an assessment by the team from the Ministry of Finance, the Indonesian government has decided to accept the NDB's invitation to join the institution and will proceed with the relevant processes in accordance with the relevant procedures and requirements. He emphasized that joining the NDB will help accelerate Indonesia's national development transformation.
Rousseff welcomed Indonesia's decision, believing that establishing a partnership between the NDB and Indonesia is of great significance. She said that Indonesia's development direction is highly consistent with the key investment areas of the NDB, and the two sides have broad cooperation space in areas such as infrastructure, transportation and logistics, digital connectivity, and energy transition.
Headquartered in Shanghai, the NDB was jointly established in 2015 by Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. It is a multilateral development bank aimed at supporting infrastructure and sustainable development projects in BRICS countries as well as other emerging economies and developing countries. As the chair of the BRICS countries in 2025, Brazil announced on January 6 that Indonesia had become an official member of the BRICS.
