India Introduces Certification Requirements for Imported Vegan Food

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has recently issued certification requirements for imported vegan food. The key provisions include:
Certification Issuance: The certificate must be issued by a recognized authority in the exporting country and should clearly state details such as the names and addresses of both the sender and receiver, country of origin, mode of transport, and product description, including name, batch number, shelf life, and net weight.
Declaration of No Animal Testing: The certifying authority must confirm that the product has not been subjected to animal testing for any purpose, including safety assessments.
Compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices: Adequate preventive measures must be in place at all stages of production, processing, and distribution to ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
Strict Separation of Vegan and Non-Vegan Ingredients: Vegan ingredients must be stored separately from non-vegan materials, and production lines must be distinct from those used for non-vegan products or ingredients.
